Twas The Night Before Christmas

Yes it's almost here... Christmas... just one more sleep. Today has been a relaxing day of wrapping presents, listening to vintage Bing Crosby Christmas records & filling the house with smells of baking & mixed spice. But nothing get's you into the Christmas spirit like visiting some of the Christmas lights in and around the city.

I took the kiddies out the other night on a Christmas lights trail & the squeals of excitement were well worth the effort. It's amazing how much effort goes into these amazing light shows, some of them are truly spectacular & the best free entertainment around. Especially fun was the house in Sinnamon Park where the lights light up to music, crowds of people dancing to the chicken dance outside this house was a sight to see.

Hope you all are having a great start to the holiday season and are bracing yourself for tomorrow's feast. Its definitely the time of year to reflect, and thinking back upon 2011 it really has been a great year and we are so thankful for all your support.

Ra Ra Redesign Challenge

Our first vintage recreation is now finished! Yay! After hours unpicking, cutting and sewing it's so great to see it on the mannequin. When we started this frumpy dumpty dress was oversized with a drop waist and baggy long sleeves. Now it is a fun sassy party frock! 

The sleeves & bodice have been slimmed down and shortened. The full skirt has been curved and is shortened at the front. The sash and skirt reattached at the waist to create a more flattering line. This dress is now in store and we are starting on the next. Stay tuned..

Ra Ra Vintage Redesign Challenge

We at Ra Ra have set ourselves a bit of a fun challenge. From now until New Years we will be redesigning and remaking a vintage dress a week. Party season is looming so it seems like the perfect time to pull out all those frumpy vintage numbers that have been stashed away in the "to do" box and give them a makeover (or in some cases a makeunder). So here's our first project (Due in store next Wed Sep 14):

The drawing above is my vision for this dress but with a bit of tweaking and draping it could well change. I found some cool turquoise taffeta in the fabric stash which will be cut to create a brand new circle skirt. The top will be tailored with short sleeves. This will be a fun one and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Visit the store next Wed Sept 7 for the first dibs on this little number.
